In the last eight months as I've served on staff at Trinity Presbyterian, Dr. Clowney has been a great source of encouragement to me. He came by my office often to, as he said, "interrupt" me. I will miss those interruptions, as he often challenged me to think in broader terms about my work and not to limit myself. I will also miss his heartfelt and honest prayers with and for us.

I never met Dr. Clowney, but in God's providence I found his book, Preaching and Biblical Theology. This book changed the way I look at the OT and the way I preach today. I am currently preaching through 1 Peter and I time and again am helped by Dr. Clowney's commentary on the book. I look forward to his new book on the 10 Commandments and because of his ministry I long to be where he is now...beholding Christ, face to face.

I had the opportunity many years ago to drive Ed Clowney from London to Birmingham. I was sorely tempted to get 'lost' and circle Birmingham for hours. What insight and wisdom that man had!

It was such a pleasure to have had the chance to hear Ed Clowney speak. He was a gentle, wise and godly man. He must be really tickled now.

One of the things I treasure especially about Dr Clowney is the energy and sincerity with which he applied his artistic gifts in praise of the King. He was inspiring to me in this way as no other living person was. He was so kind to encourage my modest efforts at hymn-writing which I had attempted because of his example.
A few years ago he gave to all the officers of Christ the King a copy of Iain Duguid’s new book, Hero of Heroes. This gesture was typical of him. It was generous and unaffected. It promoted the worthy work of someone else. It showed pastoral concern for his brothers in Christ. And above all, it pointed to Jesus and his manifold perfections as the theme of the Bible and the Hero of the Christian life, bringing forth praise to God from God’s people.
I cannot wait to worship with him again some day!
